Spanish-Speaking Populations

Librarians who work with Spanish-speaking populations may be interested in two recent Field Initiated Studies entitled, Colorado Latinos and Information: Key Informant Interviews with Latino Organizations and Information-Seeking Behaviors of Spanish-Speaking Populations: An Annotated Bibliography.
These Field Initiated Studies are the result of a Service Learning Project completed by Catherine L. Meis, a graduate student at the University of Denver’s Library and Information Science program. The end goal of this study was to help AskColorado assess potential Spanish use of the AskColorado Spanish queue.

Graphic Novels and Instant Messaging Field Initated Studies

The Graphic Novels FIS is a summary of responses from public libraries to the inquiry regarding where to shelve graphic novels.
The Instant Messaging FIS is a summary of responses received from public libraries regarding an inquiry about policies on instant messaging using the libraries computers.

Internet Filtering in Schools

School librarians may be interested in a Field Initiated Study posted regarding Internet Filtering in public and private schools. A survey was posted to Survey Monkey by Leroy Smith, inquiring about the implementation and effectiveness of internet filtering in public and private schools.

Teacher Librarians/Media Specialists at the Elementary Level

Materials Spending of Comparable Front Range Libraries

Steve Wasiekco of the City of Aurora, Library, Recreation & Cultural Services created a report demonstrating the annual materials spending for the years 2000-2006 of selected front range public libraries based on data supplied by each library.

LRS is part of the Colorado State Library, a unit of the Colorado Department of Education. We design and conduct library research for library and education professionals, public officials, and the media to inform practices and assessment needs. We partner with the Library and Information Science program at University of Denver's Morgridge College of Education to provide research fellowships to current MLIS students.
