New study shows that as the number of school librarians increases, so do NAEP reading scores
A new study by LRS staff past and present finds that in states that gained school librarians between 2004 and 2008, NAEP 4th grade reading scores increased at a greater rate than in states that lost librarians during this time period. These differences were particularly pronounced for poor, minority, and ELL students. Thanks for your comment! This article (which is the full report of the national NAEP analysis) is the first part of a bigger study. We are in the process of doing a more in-depth analysis of Colorado data, and will post an announcement here when we have the results.

I am glad to hear about the “more scholarly” study to be shared. This data will fill a particular hole in my dissertation work. Thanks for the information!

Is the SLJ piece then, the full report? Is there a more scholarly treatment of the LRS findings? This is an important study and findings. Can it be published to the LRS Web site?
Thanks.
